I have a 7 year old female cat and want to get a kitten as well?

My cat lives in an area full of cats but she's always getting into fights with them, so I'm really worried about introducing her to a kitten. I don't want my oldie to run away so does any one have any tips on wether buying a kitten is a good idea?
